THE MORRIGAN & THE BANSHEE
I had found the Morrigan as a wonderful feminine archetype inciting battle and victory of her people in war over their enemies and also has a role as a guardian over her people. It has been written she has the ability to transform into the crow, wolf, dragon to suit her needs. I wanted to depict this idea as a strong, capable woman ready to take on any thing, and win.
Later the myth of the Banshee was born and it is thought the roots of her creation came from the Morrigan. However, this time, the idea depicted is one of terror, pity and foreboding. The Banshee has been described as a shrouded crone, or a beautiful red headed girl in a white dress wandering the forest, her keening announcing death. I brought both versions of the Banshee to life, but giving her some of the qualities of the Morrigan that were removed with time and ignorance. I made the Banshee the guardian of the dead, like the Morrigan was the guardian of her people in times before.
